QUALIFICATION - LEVEL 3

Students will study a BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Performing Arts Practice (Musical Theatre). The Diploma is equivalent to 3 A-levels AND also worth up to 168 UCAS points (DDD*). The course is delivered by Lead Performing Arts / SCL Education and taught at Sharpe Academy in London.

Course content will include:

  • Musical Theatre Skills Development
  • The Performing Arts Industry
  • Personal Performing Arts Profile
  • Collaborative Performing Arts Project

Students studying on the course will participate in a range of weekly classes including approximately 25 contact hours of training in the following subjects:

Singing Harmony Vocal Techniques
Acting Classical Text Contemporary Text
Acting through Song Acting Techniques Repertoire
Monologues Modern Tap
Ballet Jazz Acrobatics


Students also have the chance to participate in annual performances including:

  • Annual Musical Theatre Production
  • Winter Showcase
  • Move It Dance Exhibition (by Audition Only)

Students are fully prepared for their next stage of training and individual attention is given to audition materials for college and university applications.

This programme will progress learners onto

  • Auditions to specialist schools
  • University
  • Employment

Students will be required to attend an audition at Sharpe Academy and if offered a place must also achieve 5 GCSE's at Grade 4 and above (including Maths & English).


AUDITION Information

Please prepare the following:

ONE Musical Theatre Song (No longer than 3 minutes)

&

ONE Dramatic Monologue (No longer than 2 minutes)
or
ONE Solo Dance Routine (No longer than 2 minutes)

You will be invited into College to participate in a JAZZ Dance Class and you will then be given time to perform your audition pieces. At the end of your audition you will have a one to one interview with one of our senior team.

Fees and Funding
The course is FULLY FUNDED for learners in England aged 16-19. All students must wear Sharpe uniform to attend class. We have a set uniform package to purchase.

Optional Costs

During the academic year we arrange 2-3 visits to watch West End productions. These trips are optional, costs vary, but on average a group ticket costs around £30.00.

Vocational Examination classes are run as part of the course at Sharpe in Ballet, Tap, Modern and Acrobatics, but exmaination fees but do incur additional charges.

Sharpe Academy is based in Harrow Arts Centre in North West London. Facilities include professional dance studios, drama workshops, music rooms, a 500 seat professional theatre, a studio theatre, a recording studio and editing suite, student recreation room and plenty of outdoor space to both work and relax in. Harrow is a London borough and we have easy access into the West End.
