This course is intended for students seeking to enter the professional performance industry within 12 months and who already demonstrate a strong level of ability in either singing or dance. Students under the age of 21 may find our 3-Year Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre & Acting more suitable, as it provides additional time to develop higher levels of performance.

All students receive immediate agency representation, which continues for up to one year after graduation, providing ongoing support as they transition into the profession.

Students undertake a full timetable in conjunction with their course units.

The programme comprises 10 fully assessed units, and successful completion leads to the award of a Certificate in Professional Musical Theatre.

Students study a full timetable for 18 weeks of the year and perform in productions and take part in workshops for 10 weeks of the year. 

Our Weekly timetable includes around 30-40 hours of classes:

Monday - 8.30am-6pm
Tuesday - 8.30am-6pm
Wednesday - 1pm-6pm
Thursday 8.30am-6pm
Friday 8.30am-6pm

Whilst students are not expected to be advanced in all dance disciplines, we aim to ensure they develop a strong foundation across the academic year in the following genres:

Jazz Technique Jazz
Modern Tap
Classical Ballet Pointe (If ready)
Contemporary Choreography
Acrobatics (Tumbling if ready) Body Conditioning

FEES AND FUNDING

1-Year POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA in Professional Musical Theatre & Acting
£6,000.00 (Inc VAT)

The course fee includes your training, which is usually split into a minimum of 24 hours per week and 24 weeks over the year. There are 3 terms in an academic year commencing in September, January and April. Fees must be paid in full at the start of the course.

Student Loans, bursaries and scholarships are not available for the 1 Year Postgraduate Diploma.

ENTRY

The Sharpe Academy Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre & Acting is a 1 Year course.

Entry Requirements

  • Students must be aged Aged 18+
  • Students must pass an Audition - Our auditions are FREE to attend
  • Students must meet ONE of the requirements below:

  • Studied Musical Theatre at a full time vocational college for a minimum of two years and are ready for a final years training.
  • Obtained a BA (Hons) Degree in Musical Theatre, Dance or Acting and wish to hone skills.
  • Performed professionally in the industry and wish to enhance skill set.

IN-PERSON AUDITION:

Saturday 25th October 2025 OPEN / AUDITION DAY 1
Friday 28th November 2025 OPEN / AUDITION DAY 2
Thursday 5th February 2026 AUDITION DAY 3
Thursday 26th March 2026 AUDITION DAY 4
Virtual Audition Private Audition (Date arranged after application)


The audition day will include:

  • A Course Intruduction Talk
  • Campus Tour
  • Ballet Class (Audition Day 3/4 Only) & Jazz Class (All Audition Days)
  • Acting Class
  • Private Audition

WHAT TO PREPARE (2 Audition Pieces)

  • One Musical Theatre Song (Up to 3 Minutes) - COMPULSORY
    Please select something that shows vocal power and range
  • One Monologue (Up to 90 Seconds)
 - OPTION 1
    Please present a piece of published text post 2000. Use your own accent.
  • One Dance Routine (Up to 90 Seconds)
 - OPTION 2
    This may be in a genre of your choosing, but we would recommend Jazz, Lyrical, Modern, Ballet, Tap or Acro-Jazz.
